Motor Mount Installed, now new problem

So I finally got all my motor mounts installed. When my mechanic called to tell me they were done, he asked why I was replacing rubber ones with these "plastic" ones.

Anyways... I go in, and he says the car now vibrates ALOT more than what it did. I test drive it, and my god it was bad. The sunroof rattles, passenger door, mirrors... everything is rattling and the engine is loud as hell. He says the rubber stops the engine from vibrating the whole car. Makes sense.

Does anyone else have a big rattling problem though? I've never heard anyone mention this in any of the posts regarding engine mounts. Is there anything I can do to soften the vibrations? I was thinking taking that sound mat stuff and lining the doors and anywhere else that might quite it down a little, maybe the firewall. Any hints/tips/help? Thanks

yeah man that's perfectly normal....the mounts are much more stiffer and prevent the engine from moving/vibrating, so the vibration that WAS there now vibrates the cabin. you'll notice it when engaging the clutch or just normally driving. nothing is wrong, that's all normal

Its the price we pay in order to enjoy the benefits of the solid mounts. I'm so used to it I didnt even think to mention, I just assume everyone knows these things I guess You'll get used to it. The 2g with the 272s is a massage chair basically. The 1g I just bought makes a lot more noise, I guess because the car is older and everything is loose. I still prefer that to mushy stock wet noodle mounts though.

May be too late for you, but for future use, the side mounts don't do nearly as much as the front and rear mounts as far as holding the motor still, yet they add 75% of the vibration you get. So some poeple may just want to do the front/rear mounts first. PRoblem is I dont think you can buy the side mounts only later on if you decide to go for it...

hey i just bought new motor mounts ... ( sorry to take over your thread but dont want to start a new one) from energy. It only says torque position mounts. Is that the front/back or the side mount inserts?

I knew there would be more vibration, but I ddint think that much. Is there anyway to kinda not have as much, or to make it alittle quieter? It only rattles from 1100rpm - 1500rpm, so it's not bad... only when the car is started cold, and the idle rests about 1100rpm. Everything vibrates. When the car warms up, and idle drops (800rpm), the vibrations go away.

Typical symptoms You can try putting the stock side mounts back in and see if thats enough to make it bearable. It usually is. This is another reason I suggest having a machine shop press out the old rubber inserts rather than burn or cut them out. They are still good and can be reinstalled Aside from that, there is really nothing you can do aside from find out what is buzzing and make it stop. For example, I found that my sunroof cover would make a rukus if it was closed, but if I opened it it was quiet. Which is jsut as well, since it opens everytime I launch the car anyway. If its a door panel or something, a little dynamat might do the trick, etc.

I really can not imagine why you would want to do this. Wet Noodle mounts? The only benefit I can possibly see is the maybe, maybe 1/4 hp you gain from the engine twisting. The drawbacks, vibration. Vibration is NOT good. Not just uncomfortable but not good for the other parts in the car.

It beats breaking driveline parts. Blow out a couple center differentials and you will agree. It has nothing to do with horsepower. Unless you consider the fact that the motor practically rolls over with stock mounts and high HP levels...

i got some pretty good vibration but nothing to complain about. i like the feel of the rumble. when i'm sitting at a red light and the massage chair is in action it really feels like a racecar

Would putting the mount on the passenger side (front of engine...belts) back to the rubber... would that stop some vibration? That seems to be where most of the vibration would come from. Sounds about right?

you can also make sure that your engine is running smooth. if you have a misfire even a slight one its going to be much more obvious now

Thats a good point. Any rough running becomes much more obvious. Or cams. Or lack of balance shafts.

Putting in the timing belt side and tranny side mounts should lower the vibration substantially, while still providing the 80% of the roll stopping from the front/rear mounts. Try it, its only an hours worth of work at the most, provided you have some you can use.

Edit> I had to replace a cracked tranny side mount once, it was only about 30 bucks. FYI.

yeah its perfectly normal like they said. You could use dynomat to get rib of the rattles. it would take out the annoying sounds. but you would still feel it

I'm going to try the side mount. My mechanic gave me back the old rubber things, so Ill just replace that one. Im actually getting used to it now. Just need to stop the rattling. I do love the tranny mount thought. Each shift is perfect. Tranny dont move at all.
