Need info about a Nissan

I'm possibly going to be buying a 1995 Nissan Altima (don't know what trim) but:
I was wondering if these are some reliable cars.
How are these cars as far as gas mileage?
How are these cars for power?
Do they have the potential to be "riced" out?
Do they have the potential to be a possible streetracing car?
About where do these cars top out at as far as top speed?
Can I buy performance parts for them and it NOT be a waste of money?
Do you think this car is worth $1,000 - $1,200?
I personally haven't seen the car but I'm assuming that it has been kept up and is probably pretty clean, I don't know I might see the car and refuse to even look at it just despite the looks of it. I know the owner of it is my Juvenile Probation Officer and he is a rather clean person he bought it new and is the only owner of it, he told me that the car has NEVER been smoked in.
Just please give me some info about this car.

Re: Need info about a Nissan

ricing out a car is bad, you can rice out any car, it means making it look fast in a tacky excessively flashy manner

they're pretty slow, probably about the same or just a tad faster than your century.

considering you're on probation, I'd avoid street racing.

Re: Need info about a Nissan

hey i have a 93 nissan altima, which is basically the same car.

"I was wondering if these are some reliable cars."

Yes these cars are reliable, as long as they have been kept up, any car 10 years old that hasnt been kept up isnt reliable. Besides that, the KA24DE engine is basically indestructible. every once and a while youll get a code that throws on a light, but its really nothing youll just need your computer reset and itll be fine. Ive not had one major problem with the car, and i have 110K miles on it.

How are these cars as far as gas mileage?

well, i live in NYC, so i only get about 17MPG, which isnt terrible, but isnt good.

How are these cars for power?

The KA24DE engine, matched with only 2800lbs of car is quick. makes 167lbs of torque at 4000rpm and pulls all the way through 6500rpm. 0-60 i'd say 7.8

I know its not fast, but its sure not slow, and once you hit 20mph it reallly picks up.

Do they have the potential to be "riced" out?
yes, there are lots of aftermarket parts and dressup kits for this car.

Do they have the potential to be a possible streetracing car?
yes, there are turbo kits out there making 250lbs of torque and 250hp, which is plenty for just street racing.

About where do these cars top out at as far as top speed?
120mph

Can I buy performance parts for them and it NOT be a waste of money? yes the car responds well to mods.

Do you think this car is worth $1,000 - $1,200?
yes i know someone who just recently bought a 94 altima for $1500 w/ 100k miles in perfect condition.

Re: Need info about a Nissan

I talked to him yesterday and he told me he gave the car to his sister after he drove it for two or three years he had no problems outta it and his sister had no prblems outta it. The reason he told me that he's selling it tho is because she went out to go to work one morning and it would turn over all day long but wouldn't crank up for shit. He said he hasn't had anyone look at it or nothing, he just decided to sell it! I'm thinking a crank sensor probably went bad. He says it MAY have a few small dings in it and the interior is rather clean, I don't know yet I still haven't seen it but it doesn't sound bad.
