Ok im looking at going RWD , anbd i found a nice 86 RX-7 with no rust and good body interior, its got AC and everything, just over a 120k, for only 700$ maybe a little less(prolby) only thing the guy said he was having problems is that it needs an apex seal or something. on the first rotor, i dunno shit about the rotary's yet so any help here would be appreciated. thanks

Re: Apex Seal?

an apex seal is basically a more critical piston ring for the rotary engine.

lets say you do the work yourself

you'll have to take the engine out of the car
then open the engine, wich means a gasket and o-ring set to start off
$200
you'll have to buy the atkins cassette to know how to rebuilt your engine
$30
you'll also have to buy new apex seals
$200-250

you'll have to check if your seals are on spec, seals and groove
you also gotta hope the guy isnt raping the rotor housing while runing with a faulty seal, cuz that might kill the housing, wich cost $500 a piece, new
rotors can also be damaged by those kind of wears, wich is also $500 a piece.

a base rebuilt by someone knowing is stuff is no where below $1k
and in the $600 range to have the engine removed and installed

Since were talking about seals..where are the coolant seals located on the engine? Is there a diagram that points all this stuff out?
