you gotta see if you are getting spark and fuel.

Re: Camaro will not start

easiest way to find out is spray some starting fluid in your carb or throttle body or even pour a little bit of gas down there and try starting it. if it fires up then its either your fuel pump or fuel filter. if it doesnt then its probably your coil.

Re: Camaro will not start

if you have a spark tester just take a plug wire off and hook it from the end of your plug wire to the spark plug, thats usually the way i check for spark.
do you hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key to on?

Most likely its your fuel pump, listen for a buzzing noise under your car when you turn your ignition on. If you dont hear anything then its your fuel pump. If you hear it check plug wires. Other then that Fuel/spark has to run.

This is just a theory and probably a longshot at best but if you have an injector stuck open it can fill a cylinder with too much gas. I've seen it once or twice before on a couple 4 and 6 cylinder cars. The injector will stay open when you turn the car off and whatever fuel is between the pump and the injector will dump into the cylinder. It's kind of like flooding a carbureted engine, makes it damn hard to start. Hope I could help man.

Re: Camaro will not start

if you have fuel and spark, then the last thing it could be is the timing. somebody probably took the distributor off and rotated the rotor, so now the timing is off. Or somebody has the spark plug wires going to the wrong cylinders. stuck open injector is possible too, but I wouldn't say likely.

Re: Camaro will not start

It can't possibly be the distriutor, it doesn't have one. But it could still be the timing...How do you know for sure it is not the filter or pump???

in my case, i could hear the pump activate when you turn the key, but no fuel was getting to the system. as it turns out, the fuel pump was broken inside my tank and was working.... but it was just pumping gas around in circles inside the tank.
that could also be it, but starter fluid shouldve worked if its a TBI like mine and the pump was the problem.... hmm

Well if you think its none of thos 2 then it is timing. From what is happening i still think its your fuel pump, the fuel filter shouldnt cause it not to start but maybe harsh idles and bad fuel comsumption. check it with a timing light

Re: Camaro will not start

oh.. i didn't realize it was a 1995 camaro... i don't know about that optispark shit. but even still, if its getting fuel then that eliminates the filter and pump (assuming that he checked it correctly). Even if he didn;t check it correctly, starter fluid would have made it run for a second or two. I would have the timing checked
