Timing belt replace/97 Accord 2.2

97 Accord SE,185,000 miles just bought it with no records. Received an estimate today for a new timing belt/water pump and one of the shaft seals for $455.00 and from a Honda only repair shop, non dealer ...........is this a good price?

Sounds good to me, we'd get about $600 for that job.

I would say it's a good price. I remember a dealer asked $850 couple years ago. But I denied since I know my timeing belt is in very good condition.

Re: Timing belt replace/97 Accord 2.2

I pulled the top cover off the timing belt before I brought it to the shop and looked at it,the lobes are still round and I dont see any cracks, but he said there is oil leaking on it from that seal. Will the oil make it fail sooner?
Thanks

The Honda repair manual specifies to inspect the teeth round corner area for wear, and the belt for "oil or coolant soaking", if it's soaked, replace it, if not, just "remove any oil or solvant gets on the belt". So, I assume if it's not "soaked", you may be ok.

Change the water pump while you are in there. It is cheap along with a timing belt change. Expensive if are only changing it when it leaks.
