Speaker Recommendations, update me from the 90's.

I am a newbie to car audio. I am willing to try brands to up my knowledge, I have a great knowledge of the electronics and wiring aspects of it all, but I am not familiar wiht many of the brands. I just put together my first system early this year. I have a Sony xplod head-unit (I know its not too great, but I liked the looks and my brother bought it for me). But I bought Alpine type-S coaxial speakers, 6.5" in the front, and 6x9" (triaxial) in the back. I also bought two Alpine Type-S 12" Subs, and an Alpine MRD-M501 (I ordered and paid for MRD-M500, I guess they were out, lucky me) amp with an MRV-T420 speaker amp. I really like the subs and the amps, the speakers however can't get too loud without distorting. Correct me if I'm wrogn, I believe its called over excursion when you just hear them flop on loud bass. They are loud enough that my ears ring when I get out of my car if I don't gradually lower the volume, but that isn't loud enough for me. What speakers would you recommend (I know there are no best speakers) that can handle more power yet still have the clarity the alpine have. Personally from my experience I really like the speakers, they are really clean and crisp, but I'd like louder. My knowledge of brands is limited to one really good source I have, however he was big in the 90's when Alpine and Rockford were the shit. So I'm kind out of date, but I'm still a youngin so I have time to catch up, lol. Currently I have the 4 speakers hooked up in parallel to a 2 chan. amp so its 2 ohms each channel. Is it better to get a 4 chan. amp and keep the speakers at 4 ohms for any reason?
Thanks for any help.

Yeah, what exactly are you looking for? Just speakers, amps, subs, cd player? What's the budget for all of it? peace
