Unhappy oil sending unit

got the old one off after new socket broke half of it and the new one doesnt seem to match the old one. there is a slight bend in the part that needs threading but the new one is straight and will not go in the hole. i looked at a couple of pics and there all the same any ideas be good

Do the threads on the new sending unit match the threads on the old one? You didn't by chance bust the threaded portion of the old unit off in the hole? The upper portion might not be the same but the threaded part on the bottom should be the same on both units. Can you take a picture and post it?

Re: oil sending unit

the threads match but the thing is the old one has an angle to it so it can be threaded in the hole without bumping the distributor and the new one is straight. I called advance and they said that is the only one that is made, I dont know if a design change or what because i can see the whole but it is in a recessed area. I put the bottom back in from the old one so i can drive but have no accurate gauge reading.

Drive by a dealer/parts department, ask for the unit, bring your new one with you and ask to look at the part, and compare right on the spot.

Advance parts may be different than the OEM....just a thought......OEM parts are always a best bet in situations like these..even if they cost a few bucks more....aggravation costs time and money....

Re: oil sending unit

i was going there before you suggested. Well while there he showed me the ac delco one and it is the same exact thing i have. He then looked at what i took out and he goes yeh thats the right thing then proceeded to tell to me that this is the original one and that they changed designs after they found this one to be defunct. i go to him well how do i get the new one in since there the same and he goes you need to drop a new engine in it and by this time i was gonna hit him so i just walked away. I will probally have my mechanic put it in for me friday since it goes in for inspection.

They are too. I agree with you on that too. Im not gonna tell the mechanic what i was told. He is pretty good so i hope he figures it out. Its just unbelievable that he would say that.
