93 Lasabre wont start

ok here's the story....i've been told diff..things but i hope someone can help...i stopped by some apt. to look at, and when i was gonna leave my car wouldnt start..so i had someone i know come out and give me a jump...it wouldnt start at all so he bypassed the egnition and it started but only stayed on for like 2 seconds and then would shut off...so i was told that it could be the starter or the fuel pump...but someone told me that it wouldnt be the starter or it wouldnt have started at all...and someone else told me that it wouldnt be the fuel pump or else the car wouldnt have started at all either..so now i'm kinda lost...but i did notice a few things when i tryed starting it, the security light keeped blinking while the key was on the on mode, and the brake light comes on when i turn the key..that might be normal but i dont really recall seeing it before...i'm about to go see what else is out of the normal to see what it could be, but any help would be great

Sounds like the security system in the car isn't able to read the special chip in your key. This prevents the car from starting and the security light flashes till it can read it. Try cleaning your key.

oh god i hope it's not the key...if it is and i need a new one how much would it cost to get it replaced???

ok well i cleaned my old key and it didnt work, so i went and got a copy made for 18.00 and still does the same thing, any other help would be great
