Clacking axle problem

Ok im gonna try and explain this as clear as possible..

First off ,keep in mind both of my control arms are loose (they move back and forth, the shop said theyre not supposed to)

ok, my axles are making a clacking noise, and the noise seems t be coming from where they go in the transmission...anytime i go over and type of bump, it clacks (Noise sounds like hitting a desk with a ruler, jus loud)..and if i hold the brakes, put the car in gear (forward or reverse), and let the brakes gio it clacks, when i press them again it clacks..anytime the ibrake and let go it clacks, any time i go over ANY type of bump in tha street it clacks, i dont kno if theyre bad axles, jus loose, the noise is coming from the control arms, or its in the transmission...any suggestions to what this may be? (all joints and suspension components are intact)

It could be multiple things if the control arms are loose. I would suspect that bad bushings would be causing this. There may be enough play in the control arms allowing the C.V. joints to hit on the frame, or it could be the control arms themselves hitting part of the frame. I would fix the control arm issue as soon as possible. You don't want your front end coming off when you're driving on the highway. I had a friend with a taurus, a 2000 i think it was, and his control arms tore off going around a turn putting him it a ditch inches from a tree. Does the front end of the car feel loose when you go over a bump or brake, like something is moving around? How about when you turn?

Re: Clacking axle problem

My Escort made noises like this until I replaced the swar bar bushings... Of course that doesn't explain your loose control arms.
