Opinions on fuel additives

I bought some Berryman's Chemtool B-12 (metal can) and have yet to put it in.

I've used the other additives for cleaning the injectors in previous vehicles. Didn't really notice anything different.

Anyone use this regularly in their truck?

Re: Opinions on fuel additives

I use b-12 fairly often for a variety of gas engines. It works but you won't notice any miracle benefits unless the truck is running poorly because of clogged injectors.

Re: Opinions on fuel additives

Fortunately, I'm not having any issues at the moment. The only issue I was having (intermittent stalling, dimming dashlights/headlamps) turned out to be a dirty throttle body. I fixed that with a can of 3M throttle body cleaner and some shop rags.

I grabbed a can of this while getting the can of 3M. Figured I'd give this a try as well. I've tried some of the others (Gumout, STP, etc) just wasn't sure if any rate any better than another.

Greetings Faze3,

My rule of thumb for gasline fuel additives is - if it comes in a plastic container - its a deicer - if it comes in a metal can it will work as a cleaner.

I've used Slick 50 fuel treatment (metal can) for years - about once every 4,000 or 5,000 miles. I always notice a difference right after using it - in gas mileage improvement - and "sometimes" I can tell a difference in response. Gasoline today is very "guess" oriented as far as quality. Some stations have decent gas while others don't. I consider injector/fuel system cleaner to be a preventive maintenance effort - and it will help the fuel filters as well as the injectors etc..

Why do I seperate it by plastic or metal containers? Because what it takes to effectively clean a fuel system of petroleum based wax or buildup is solvent-type capability. Plastic containers "soften" when putting this type of cleaner in them - which is why the better products are in metal.

Re: Opinions on fuel additives

I've always used Sea Foam (also in a metal can) and have been very happy with it. Put it in the gas and it will clean everything the gas touches. Pour it into the intake (SLOWLY!!!) and it will clean the valves (carbon smoke will block your view of your neighbor's house the first time you use it). Put it in the oil 500 miles before changing it to clean the crankcase (Oil will be BLACK). I used to use 3 cans of it at/before every oil change. 1/2 bottle in oil before oil change, 1 bottle in each tank, 1/2 bottle through intake.

Re: Opinions on fuel additives

i use Red Line it uses detergents to clean rather than solvents that can over time harm seals , o-rings and gaskets. i have been using this forever in all vehicles i have ever owned with never a problem and even in my truck when it was new to prevent any build up.
