This is all really complicated, I am looking into upgrading my audio system on my 2000 LeSabre. The problem is I want to keep my stock 12-disc changer, retain my steering wheel audio controls, but add XM radio. Right now I am looking at using the premium audio system that was installed in the 2003 bonnevilles. Basically your problem depends totally on the model year of your LeSabre, but on the 2000+ and I think they were using the same system from 97-99, there is a data bus that runs throughout the car called class II serial data. This is basically a network just like USB or Firewire ports on your computer, and every module/device in your car broadcasts data over this network and communicates with other modules. The radio is no exception, you probably also have problems with the chime sound that the car makes when you leave your keys in the ignition and what not. The DIM or dash integration module has recognized the absence of the radio in this circuit, now it doesn't affect other modules that want to keep on communicating, but its basically like unplugging your USB printer from your computer, you can click file

I am still trying to figure out what I will do about my upgrade, one common solution used by audio install people is to simply take the factory radio and relocate it somewhere else in the car, basically hide it away, but run a harness connector to it so that the class II bus still sees it. I am hoping I can get the 2003 bonneville radio deck to simply work in place of my 2000 unit, it looks like the connectors have the same wiring scheme, the problem is that this deck is meant to output low level sound to an external amplifier, so I'll need to get hold of that as well and re-work the harness from my 2000 to patch in the amp, one heck of a project.
