fuel gauge

i have a 02 4runner that shows half a tank on the gauge, but the tank is empty, wondering if anybody else is having the same problem, any help would be appreciated,thanks

I also have a 02 4Runner and had the same problem as you have. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the fuel sending unit inside the gas tank. As a matter of fact. my CD/Radio also went bad on me and was also replaced. Both fixes were done while my 4Runner was still under the 3 years/36,000 miles warranty. Both my fuel gauge and CD/Radio are working fine now since they were replaced. I hope your 4Runner is still under warranty. If not, I'll contact Toyota. The fuel sending unit should not go out this soon.

thats a strange coincidence, the cd/radio went out in our 02 4runner while it was still under warranty unfortunately it now has 48000 miles on it,i didn't think it should go out this quick either,thanks for the info tho

just got truck back from toyota,with48959 miles on it they replaced the sending unit at no charge,wouldn't get that kind of service from the big 3, once its out of warrany its your problem as far as they are concerned, sure glad i bought toyota's this time
