Sensitive Stabity system?

My 2003 Yukon Denali activates the stabilization system very often when taking on-ramps or off-ramps (cloverleaf style ramps). Speed is often between 25-30 mph when the system activates. It apparetnly is sensing that the car is in jeopardy of flipping over?????? Anyone experince this type of thing? Dealer cannot find the problem. Have reloaded latest software update and replaced a sensor in the steering column.

It will do that! You are driving to fast. Most ramps are 15MPH usually. That's a pretty light truck! It's way more plastic than the older models. They are just warning you! To flip you need to be moving faster.

For ex. your fuel light comes on. When it comes on, it's not saying you are out of gas, just a warning! No worries!

What exactly happens when the stabilization system kicks on? Is there a light that goes off? Does it automatically slow the car down?

Could it just be the sensor?

The stabilizer light comes on in the dash and the system automatically starts breaking the car. The car vibrates and you cannot realy brake or accelerate while the system in active. We have a friend you bought their Denali 2 weeks after us and drives the same roads we do. Their system has never activated. The dealer has found no system errors. We will soon be having a diagnostic computer hooked up to the car to capture exactly what is happening as this seems to be a very rare occurrence with a low number of Yukons.

If you drive in California, most on-ramps are designed for speeds in excess of the 15 mph limit suggested by the previous thread.

BTW: The dealer's recommendation was to simply turn of the stabili-trak system every time we start the car. This does not seem safe. I wonder if they would put that in writing.

Good luck with that. Never had the stabliizing system come on my Denali yet so I was just wondering.

Yeah, I live in California too and never heard of an on or off ramp speed of only 15mph.

The dealer must be crazy. Why have an option like stabilitrack and not be able to use it. That's a total cop out.

Well, maybe not in Cali. Im in DC and our ramps are about that, maybe it's a bit faster (commuting-wise)....The factory made that for those purposes. You don't want to be doing 60 or 70 around it and it turns. At the wrong angle, 35 can be just as dangerous.

If it's becoming a problem or irritating, Im sure you can remove the fuse and disable it

sounds like you have an over sensitve gyro sensor.
my 03 stability system works flawlessly.
there were some issues at first, but after 3 trips to the dealer, they finally got it right.

Dayum...maybe one would be better off turning off Stabilitrak in that case...I mean, I wouldn't want Stabilitrak breaking my vehicle; besides, I thought it was supposed to help minimize the possibility of breaking your vehicle, not the opposite!

FWIW--I think maybe the Stabilitrak in my DXL might not be functioning properly; there's this decreasing-radius cloverleaf exit near where I live that's rated at 25 mph; I've taken it at 40+ more than a few times, and I've not yet seen the Stabilitrak work its magic during those times. And no, it was not deactivated...at least according to the DIC and the fact that the Stabilitrak idiot light was not lit on the cluster.

What are you talking about plastic?? Depending which wheel base he has....

XL = Curb weight: 5839 lbs.
Reg = Curb Weight. 5342 lbs.

Seeing how a "BEEFY" Hummer has a Curb Weight of 6,400 lbs. Thats only 561 lbs more than an XL. Its not a..."pretty light truck!". I would say it should be able to take a 15 MPH curve without it coming on.

I agree...see my last post. The only thing I can think of, short of an actual Stabilitrak problem, is that maybe you're (not you personally) approaching the turn way too fast and can't slow down quickly enough to take the turn w/o Stabilitrak activating on you...
