L 7 ????

This last weekend I was at the junkyard and saw a 1980 something 7 series L7 what is the L7???? it looked like a 3.5 litre but with the head off it looked like there were different valves and combustion chamber looked different. I would really like to know what this is.

Hi Slyhog,

The L7 is an extra luxury loaded 7-series. Every year there are a handfull produced and sold. I'm not sure what the changes are, but I can guess that they are not really on the mechanical side and more aimed at creature comforts. You should try to find the VIN/chassis number on the car that you are interested in so you can decode it to understand exactly what the car is that you are looking at.

You can decode the VIN/Chassis number on http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi

I hope this helps

Re: L 7 ????

Cool. Had never heard of the L7 before, in fact i was getting ready to edit the thread title to "M7?" as that is a question that often comes up.

Anyway, back to the L7. Here's a link with some info:

My son and I are going back to the recycler tomorrow and look this thing over for anything I may be able to use for my 6 series and ....of course... get the exterior badges off of it.
