exhaust question

hey, I was just wondering because I have a 2000 jetta vr6, manual and I was planning on doing some stuff to the exhaust to make it sound better.

Now I dont know if it is true or not but I read somewhere that the stock system includes like two or three resonators, I havent been able to look under the car too well because of a certain lack of a lift.

So I was just wondering so I could know what I was getting myself into before I actually got myself into it, does anyone actually know anything about the system or could refer me to a previous thread that talks about it?

Get a techtonics tuning exhaust.

if you've got the $$$$ to spend get an APR exhaust...sound is mean without being obnoxious. And the gains in hp and torque are more than worth the money.

Groovy, I'm considering the same thing. I'm just wondering if it's hard to do. All I've got is a floor jack so I'm wondering if I'm gonna be able to do it myself.

you're going to need some jack stands to get it done...all in all it is extremely easy..the APR exhaust is strictly bolt on...not sure what the VR6 exhaust looks like but I had to cut mine(1.8t) between the resonator and the muffler to get it out. You can remove the rear suspension to get it out whole but it's not really worth the effort. You could always weld the exhaust back together if you wanted to put it back on. I would recommend getting someone to help you though. You're gonna need two people to make sure that the muffler is hung straight and true. Piece of advice...when you go to put it on..mock it up with all the clamps lose make sure you have the clearance needed at every turn and then start tightening everything up. The whole process took my friend and I about an hour.

I've noticed that all VW mechanics, especially those working at dealerships, reccomend either the techtonics or the neuspeed exhaust... Fill me in. Is it simply a personal preferance that seems to be universal or is there more to it?

techtonics is good no doubt about it, and it's designed for the vw, not to mention the price is much lower than APR or Neuspeed. I think a lot of people just say Neuspeed cuz it's a well known name. Either would be a fine choice. I personally believe that APR is the best...and I've driven jetta's with all three on with similar setups and the APR exhaust just outperforms them all, it's mostly due to the their downpipe design..this alone can give your car over 10hp. But like I said this is with the 1.8t engine not sure what the gains would be for the VR6. Techtonics is pretty much a borla/flowmaster muffler w/ 2.5'' custom piping thats why its cheap. Neuspeed uses 2.25'' piping and chrome, apr uses 2.25 or 2.5'' and chrome.

APR also makes a 3" pipe..
