Talking Today I tanked up for $0.98

Today I registered a 1982 Garelli moped - the registration cost $5.25 for three years - no insurance, emissions testing, or inspection was required.
I went to town and filled up in about 5 seconds for less than a dollar - and it's good for about 90-100 miles! The bike only cost $75 too!
You'd have to be an idiot not to own a moped, considering how cheap it is to own and run - heck considering the mileage it's already saved my "big" Subaru it's going to pay for itself in a month in money not spent on gas.
Anyway thought I'd point out how cheap I am. Also if anybody knows were I can find a "Yeah it's got a Hemi" bumper sticker for it, I'd appreciate knowing where I can get it.

Mopeds are really fun to ride, I'd get one but they're not exactly practical in Illinois. Good deal, though

They're probably less practical in Colorado (very hilly). But cheap no matter where you live.

Regulations for mopeds are set by the State government. Different states have different laws. Some states have a minimum driving age, but do not require a liscense, a few states don't even have a minimum driving age, while others require registration, a motorcycle liscense, and insurance. Some states have the maximum top speed for mopeds set at 30mph - a few states have it set as low as 15mph.
Moped laws were never standardized in the U.S. it's best to contact the DMV, and question them about mopeds or "motorized bicycles" as they're refered to legally in some states.

I'm pretty sure you do, at least in the state of IL. You need a registered license plate for it.

And scary to ride them, are you kidding? They're no more dangerous than a bicycle unless you ride it like a retard

Statistics show that mopeds are involved in less fatal accidents than any other motorized vehicle, and in total accidents in relation to number of mopeds registered are still lower than those of cars or motorcycles.
The danger has nothing to do with the moped - and everything to do with the people in cars who don't follow traffic laws.
Accident statistics from most countries show that mopeds are safer than either cars or motorcycles. Considering their 25/30mph top speed this isn't very surprising.

Defeated by the fact that the first thing I would do with it is find a wrecked GSX-R 1000 and swap the engine in.

180 mph moped?

But maybe that's just me.

Re: Today I tanked up for $0.98

Hows that saying go about fat chicks is like a moped? Fun to ride until your friends see you on one? Something like that.

Living in Europe for the past four years I am sick to death of mopeds and scooters. They're fucking everywhere! And all those who ride them believe they truly own the road, obey no traffic laws (or common sense) and fear no one. Not the right attitude you should be displaying when riding a machine that consists of 2 wheels and your only protection is a helmet, if you even wear one.

Sorry if this came off as a rant. It is a great a little machine, especially economy wise. Its just the people around here who ride mopeds give them a horrible image.

That is the absolute truth. Many times I had to slam the brakes to avoid one. Be very careful when riding one. Here in Europe mopeds are very common and drivers are, for the most part, very alert to their presense but in the US mopeds are rarely seen on the road. So when riding one in the US you must watch out for cars because they are not watching out for you. Ride safely!
