what tires do street racers use?

soon after i get my car back on the road again, im sure im going to smoke the hell out of my tires.

suggestions? i had eagle f1 gs-d3's on my last 240 and they are UNBELIEVABLE. the reason i am not getting them again is price compared to treadwear. i'd probably smoke the rear tires after 2 months.

what do you guys run for your high horsepower lightweight car? im really leaning towards the kumho mx. looking for best tires judging 1. price 2. grip 3. tread wear. every day driving and street tire. for the track im just getting a couple of slicks.

Re: what tires do street racers use?

I'm buying nitto 555s..haven't decided on whether or not to go drag radial or just normal radial. That's probably not helpful to you at all seeing as how our cars are quite different. Oh well.

i'd get those, but the largest width is 205 in 16" wheels.... i need at the very least a 9" wide tire.

Re: what tires do street racers use?

I have Federal cheap-o Tires. I believe it was $265 mounted and balanced... and the dude came to my house and put the shit on... he had all the tire stuff in the back of this Box-Van... it was the most awesome thing evAr!

205/50R15's... through an (we think)3.90 Open diff... it's good shit.

252whp, and it still hooks in a nearly 2000lb car.

I'm running Falken Azenis Sports sized 225/45 17". I have yet to give them a test since I got them on the car. It is too damn cold out. However, I hear they are a popular choice for the auto-x course around here. On a side note, they are all that expensive either. I only paid $112 per tire with mounting and balancing.

from what i saw on your cardomain page, your wheels only 6.5 inches wide. you can't fit 255's on those. or else they would look ridiculous, also your handling would suffer from having your sidewall so bubbled out.

when i get rid of my 5zigen typhoons, i'm gonna get the kumho MX's. its got glowing reviews from tirerack. esp from a guy who owns a E46 M3, and got pretty good reviews from a guy in a Z06. not bad for a tire that cost 117 for 235's in the front, and 135 for a set of 255's in the back also they are rated at 186mph. pretty good.

also you got 16 in rims, i'm not sure if they make tires that wide for only 16's.

If you decide on DR's, get Mickey Thompson's or BFG's. The Nitto's are okay, but for the money the other two are better. Nitto's only offer better treadwear, every other aspect they are lower.

Kumho Ecsta MX are a great handling tire. Not so great straight line. Treadwear sucks. I got about 12,000 outta my set. I was hoping for a little more, but I did drive them hard. Probably buying two as front tires, and Nitto 315/35/17's on the rear. At least for street driving. Gonna need more rubber.

12,000 is bad by your book? that's great! its a summer only tire, i had about 5k on my eagle's before they were near bald

they are 7" wide.... and i never said 255's, i said 9" wide

im getting 225/50/16 kumho mx all around.... from what i hear they are the best bang for buck, and will complement my 240 not only on grip but on the handling.

Re: what tires do street racers use?

I need about 12,000+ miles out of my tires and the best traction possible for the lowest coin possible. Would that be either of the tires you suggested, Mr Luos? The sooner I decide on tires..the sooner you guys get to see me melt my currents.

I would recommend the Dunlop SP Super Sport Race tires. They range from anywhere from $119-131 a tire from tirerack and have a 60 treadwear where as the Nitto 555R's have a 100 treadwear. I believe the Dunlops are cheaper than the Nitto's, but the tirerack doesnt stock them, so its hard to say. The only thing about the Dunlops are tire sizes are limited.
