I know soft pastels are like chalk and oils are kind of waxy. I have never used oils, but I like softpastels. I hope you ask over there at wetcanvas. I know there are lots of good artists but it gets boring real fast if you are only into cars. They like rendering flowers, puppies, children, and structures; who wants to draw that stuff. ![]() I currently use el-cheapo brand soft pastels but I hear that Prisma makes skinny pastels that are awesome. I saw an artist at the mall and spoke with him. He used Prisma skinny/small pastels and pastel pencils (all soft). I need to get some Prisma. If you need some books on pastels check out your local library. They will have some. al

Re: NEED tips on using Oil Pastel's
ive done a few pieces in oil pastel. best advice I can give you is to get your hands on some q-tips with a pointed end. shouldn't be too hard I found em at wal mart. as far as brand name pastels, dont worry about that too much right now. remember you cant erase mistakes but you can cover them up. with more pastel. dont forget to work in coats instead of trying to get it all on in one coat. as far as what oil to blend with. ive tried many different kinds, I found that baby oil is the best bang for your buck. dont forget save anything thats black on the car for last black is one of the hardest colors to cover up. I suggest using colored pencil to help with the finer details things such as doorsills, headlight details, emblems, or anything too small to work in pastel.
hope this helps you out some. if you have anymore questions about oil pastels. i'll do my best to help you out.
