things i WOULD REALLY like to know...
well i have a 90 chevy half ton ext cab short bed 2wd witha 350tbi(the engine is newer out of a 91c1500) i have the 700r4 tranny. i want to know a few things about my truck like....
what gears are in it? i want something with a lil more topend to it than wut i have now and im lookin into new gears i just donno wut i have, i want to put a lsd rear end in my truck, im not sure what size housing i have i dont have my truck right now to know for certain or how many bolts there are. i also want to know about rebuilding my tranny? about how much does that normally cost? im getting my truck lowered and after i do that im going to do work to my drivetrain, and i jus need to know some things and about how much they all cost, also i would really appreciate any other tips or products that are great to have or something. something else i would really like to know about is are torque converters, exactly wut do they do? and the stall converters like wuts a really good one for a street truck? something good for everyday driving but the occasional drag racing, are stall converters and torque converters the same? idk wut either really do sry for sounding like a dumbass i am in a vocational school learning but we dont exactly learn about wut many things do and like high performance stuff is yet, well not yet im half way through my junior year. thanks guys. Re: things i WOULD REALLY like to know...
Tranny will cost about 750 to 1000 bones depending on if you get a top knotch rebuild or a cheap rebuild.Stall converters allow rpms to build before locking up & going.Summitracing.com has tons of converters.I had a 2500rpm cnv in a nova it lanched hard for every day driving. But nice for racing!!! The tech guys at Summit can help you choose the right one for you.Car weight, cam & torque of your moter is all figgerd in to this choice(best left to the pros)Im not sure about it but you should be able to take your vin #and take it to a good parts store and cross reference to find out what you have for gears & such.Your not a dumb ass just a cub!!!Im much older than you & still learning every day!!

Check in your glovebox for a sticker with a bunch of codes...Look for the codes starting with G...Then follow this link to see what gears you have

A stall converter is a torque converter.
A stall converter is exactly like riding the clutch on a manual transmission vehicle. The car will launch at or around what the stall converter is rated for. Something to keep in mind! A 2500 stall converter will behave quite differently behind a stock 350 than it will when coupled to a wild 454! A 2500 stall might begin to pull at around 2500rpms with the 350, but might flash to 3500rpms when mated to the wild 454. |

Best advice is talk to the motor heads and not just one or two. Have fun with it. Its fixable. |

Torgue converters force fluid through fins. kind of like a wind mill. The higher the stall the more fluid needs to be push through it by means of higher rpms from the motor. This link might help you understand; http://auto.howstuffworks.com/torque-converter.htm Best advice is talk to the motor heads and not just one or two. Have fun with it. Its fixable. Re: things i WOULD REALLY like to know...
yeah i have a set of long tube headers, cam, k&n offroad aircharger(jus an open air filter) and i have a dual outlet exhaust system, but i am tryin to make it jus dual with 2 mufflers, i want to lower my truck next and then get the tranny rebuilt(which i firned of mine who has an 88 with the 700r4 got it done for about 130 bucks bc he knows a guy pretty well, he said he will have me go there and get it done cheap and he does a hell of a job to)and i want to get a nice set of gears that are great for racing and wont kill me on the highway but something that has some great top end to, im also wanting a limited slip differential for my truck to. but im really not sure what kind of torque converter i should get? any suggestions?
