'89 T-Bird, Tranny or torque converter?

It is not providing power to the wheels under certain circumstances. Particurarly when it is cold. I put it in gear, foreward or reverse, move a little, say 25 feet or 100 feet, let off the gas and go back to idle, and apply the gas again say to pull onto the road, the engine then spools freelyfor a moment, then it slams back in gear.

Hot starts sometimes have the engine running very rough. Like not all cylinders are hitting.

Lots of mile on this one, 190K. 6cyl, sc model. I know it is probably due to be scrapped. Simply can not afford a new car, help!

sounds like your stator one-way clutch has taken a dump; I'm surprised your tranny has lasted this long I had an '85 T-bird 5.0 and the tranny let go @ 175,000.
