Question Smell of Match when starting

After replacing:
Fuel FIlter, TPS, EGR, CPI & Nut Kit, Dist Cap & Pluts & Wires,
and an Oil Change -
4.3 runs great!

When I start it it has a smell of a match - sulfur I think. The smell only lasts for a few seconds and fades away.

Anything to be concerned about? Or am I acting like a mother worried about her baby coughin?

I did clean the intake plenum the best I could w/ gasket cleaner, and turpentine w/ a rag, it wasn't shiny when I was through, but got any carbon crumbs and thick layers out.

Usually, the sulphur smell means a bad Catalytic Converter.

yip, your cat is poisoned.

Time to swap it out.

It is usually destroyed by the bad cpi injector.

thanks, i'll look into the cheapest fix $$$, should be pretty easy to do for a layman.

I guess I probably shouldn't bother trying to do the Cali. smog test until I get that fixed. Any Cali folk that can tell me if a Cat. Converter is a Cat. Converter or if I need to be picky about what brand or emission rating (if there is such a rating)?

Check with the Califonia Dept of Air Quality before you buy anything. In Arizona there are very specific manufacturers and even specific model numbers of Cats that are approved for use. If you replace with Joe Blow's brand of Cat, you're toast.

Get a universal CAT and have it installed instead of the prefit for our trucks

MUCH cheaper.
