'84 brake job

I recently bought a 1984 GT with 66,xxx and it has no brakes. The previous owner said that the cylinder in the rear drivers side drum went bad and was leaking fluid. I removed the drums, etc. but I can't seem to get the cylinder off. I removed the two bolts on the back of the cylinder but I can't get the brake line to come loose. Do I need to take the hardline loose? What is my problem? And if you've got any other tips for me on the brake job I would appreciate it! thanks.
