Smogg Test Help

It the time of year again where i gotta register and smog it. The last time i smogged it was like 2 year ago where my car was complete stock. the mileage back then on the engine was around 155,000. Now it has almost close to 170,000 mile on it. well my question is, if u add a cold air intake and a cat-back exhaust, would it affect the smog that coming out of my car? would u expect me to pass the smog test with these modification or would i have to put on my stock intake and exhaust in order to pass it? i drive a 94 LS by the way.

You should pass it, unless youve gotten rid of the cat I think you should be fine. I dont see why either of those mods would ding you down at smog. The intake it might help a little if you cleaned the filter before you went but maybe some of the guys who actually have to deal with the smog tests can tell you definately.

assuming you have a cat, I'm pretty sure you'll pass easy.

Re: Smogg Test Help

Is it possible to pass emissions with a JDM motor? I have been through three times and each gotten a fail. This last time we did plugs, cap, wires, and rotor, and put a new air filter on and I still failed by .25 CO...

To pass smog inspection, all the required emission devices must be connected in your engine and functioning properly. Unfortunately, JDM motors are not equip with emission devices required by law and so your JDM motor wont pass smog.

You need to take your car to a smog repair shop and ask them if they can mod your JDM motor to stock configuration. Most likely it will cost you some big cash for the mods.
