Transmission Problems

I pulled out of the gas station the other day and my car felt a little sluggish. I was hitting the gas but the rpms weren't going above 2500. A little puff of smoke came from inside on the passengers side. Also, on the dash when I put the car in drive the park light also illuminates. I want to try and find out some info. before bringing it to someone. Please help!!!!!

Yikes. That doesn't sound too good. Sounds to me like some wiring got crossed up in the dash. You install anything lately?

Re: Transmission Problems

Do you have any Check engine lights or any flashing lights indicating a problem?
Also, what year is your car, what's the mileage, and is it stick or auto?

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

The only light that has been coming on is the break lamp light. My car is a 92 accord ex and it has about 156,000 miles. It's an automatic.

From where? If it was the A/C vents, and the ambient conditions were just right AND you had the a/c on, and ... and ... etc ---- it might just have been condensation and unrelated to your problem.

If it was from any place else, as the man says -- yikes!

Re: Transmission Problems

I should add the the "yikes" (in my case) was because I've had a car catch fire while I was driving it (a VW bug) and I only detected trouble when it started to misfire. The I looked in the rear view mirror and .... !

The puff of smoke came from near my fiance's feet. Whatever that means.

Re: Transmission Problems

Was anything going on at that time that could have been a factor(using the lighter, hit a bump, closed the glovebox, anything?)

Re: Transmission Problems

Did the smoke have a smell, electrical, fluid, etc?

Re: Transmission Problems

Where is the ECM, PCM, ECU, whatever you Honda folks call it on his car? (sounds suspect if it's over there on the pass kick panel or is it underhood?)

Re: Transmission Problems

Is your fiance prepared to ride in your car - ever - again?

Someone help me out here - where is the TCM? Is it under the passenger seat?

Re: Transmission Problems

The tcm and pcm are under the pass floor board, where her feet would be.I have never heard of one smoking before, but that is where it is at.If you lift the pass side carpet up you will see a metal panel, the tcm is on one side and the pcm on the other.Carl

Re: Transmission Problems

After thinking about it I have heard of customers complain about puff of smoke before. You might try a junk yard if they will warranty it for you.If you buy a new one I would let the dealership put it in.Because the ab shift solenoids sometimes short and will refrie the new tcm.If they fry it,you are covered.Carl
