350 in a metro?????

Hey, does anyone have any pictures of a metro with a chevy sb 350 or similar in it???? Or any where where someone has written about it or shows/explains how to do it????? I would love to do this swab, and possibly make it street legal. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Re: 350 in a metro?????

Have you ever looked at the possibillity of putting a 350 in a metro maybe a steel tube frame with a metro shell. Me and my friends get into discussions over the idea alot and that was the only way we could think of doing it. The idea would be awsome but to make a sleeper street legal metro i would stick with looking at shoving a honda motor and trans into it other wise the fabrication needed would be insane and expensive. With the honda motor all you need is custom fab motor mounts, trans mounts, custom steering setup and so on there would be a lot of fabrication but it would be a lot cheaper. A metro with a v-tec would be fucking awsome.

all you need to do is take out the front subframe from an older gm car, cut it to make it more narrower, tub the entire rear of the car and shorten a ford 9". Just cut the firewall out and custom make one out of sheet metal.

Re: 350 in a metro?????

it doesnt sound like much in writing but what your saying is to take a unibody with a 1 liter motor, welding a frame from the front end forward, while keeping it perfectly square and level so it would drive straight. I dont think theres any way in hell the metro unibody could handle about 5 times the weight of the stock motor. It sounds easy in writing but doing half the stuff is the biggest pain in the ass. Anyways you forgot alot of shit, suspension, steering, how you going to keep the rear axle straight you cant weld bushings to the floor board, what wheels and tires to use, ecu unless its carburetor, and it wont be stock and there woul be no way in hell it would be street legal. Trying to fit a b16 would be alot easier with about a third of the fab work, if you have the resources i say go for it but if you want a sleeper metro then a japanese motor swap is your best bet. You could even try squeezing a sr20 into it alot more work but get the turbo sr20 and you would have no problem beating a 350.

Re: 350 in a metro?????

a 2x3 tube chassis is needed, since there is NO structural stability to these little fuckers. btw...the dist. is under the dash when its done, and it has a 5" driveshaft

not that i am working on a TPI swap in one or anything

and yes an SR20 can be made fast, but theres no replacement for displacement.

Re: 350 in a metro?????

I can agree with that you have to love the sound of a 350 at wot going down the track but when you see a little 2200lbs hatchback completely destroy a domestic you have to wonder. I still say if you want a sleeper metro you would be better of trying to fit a little four banger as opposed to completely rebuilding a frame for a big motor. There is no replacement for displacement but when a little shit box beats your 700 horse power camaro it makes you think. (i dont own a 700 horse camaro but it would be fucking awsome).

Me thinks you all are forgetting one problem....
WEIGHT!!! What with the mill and all the frabication I don't see how a metro could deal w/that . The rear is too light, length too short .

My buddy has a 95' metro with a 350 in it. Hi-rise intake, dual carbs. He completely removed the front subframe. Built a tubular steen frame for the engine, trans, and suspension. Cut part of the firewall out, tubbed the rear end out, and threw some 38" slicks on the back and a wheelie bar. Car runs mid 10's. I've got the pics at home, i'll post them later.

I just have to say you guys make me laugh soo hard....Ha I can only imagine me and my little Geo Metro on the road. And all of sudden this thunderous Camaro comes up with this hot babe in the pasenger side of the car, looks at me smiles and the driver starts reving the engine. But little does he know i have the ultimate SHIT BOX EGG with a 350 inside my little baby beating so bravely against this big ole' bad ass Camaro.....

(Soon after I wake up after my Geo goes soo fast that I end up crashing into a parked car because im soo shocked at the fact that my Geo beat a Camaro hahahahhahaha you guys are sooo funny if I had enough money to make my Geo Ultimate I really would seriously i wouldn't care if it was a waste of money cause thats just badass if your Geo owns like that)
