Buying a '94 'stang, need info on the engine.
Well, my friend has a 1994 Ford Mustang GT, sporting a 5.0 Litre Cobra racing engine. They say the origional GT motor was vandalized, and the engine was replaced with a 5.0 high output cobra racing engine. What they are telling me, is this car has 380 or so horsepower.
I have driven it for a week, it really has balls, and it picks out so great. It has a 5 speed manual in it, and the Tan/Black interior. What I want to know, is looking at these pictures, is it really a cobra racing engine. I don't see the Cobra on the Intake manifold, but I think what's under it may be the real thing. Here's some pictures for refrences. ![]() ![]() *click either engine pics for larger images* ![]() Also, this car needs a new rear trunk seal, a new hood, new headlight lamps, and a new front bumper. Does anyone know where I can get replacement parts really cheap? The car is costing me $2500, so it's not a bad deal. The engine has 96,000 miles on it, the body has 154,000 miles on it. It has 4 new tires, and will come with 4 more new tires, cause he knows I'll most likely burn them off. Thanks for any help. I won't be able to check here for a week, due to 50 hours of work, and over 2 hours of driving each day.

$2500 is a good deal. And you can't tell just by looking at it. 380hp is alot of horsepower. More than just "it has some balls". It'd be like "ITS FUCKING SICK AS FUCK FAST". Get it dyno'd.

I've never driven a car with so much power, so I can't tell by the feel of it if it really has that much power. I'm used to driving my 215hp grand prix, and I was so disappointed when I got back into it. ![]() Thanks pimprolla112, any help will be appreciated. If he can tell me off the bat what engine model it is, I can probably look up the stock specs on it. I will try to get the car dyno'd, but I have no idea where i'd go for that.

Where do you live? I may be able to point you in the direction of a dyno. And I don't know..that engine looks like an old tired dirty motor..and it's hard to imagine a 380hp N/A modular. If it had that kind of power I think you'd know it. It'd roar so loud when you floored it..spin like crazy..take off like a fucking bat out of hell. You could always find yourself a corvette and race it. With that kind of power you should be able to take Z06s..or atleast run with them.

Re: Buying a '94 'stang, need info on the engine.
Well, I live in Charlotte, Michigan. I'm sure you don't know where it is, so i'll just say it's right by lansing.
About the side note, yeah, 380hp anything would be great. I will have to get the thing dyno'd. I am like you, I don't believe the numbers to be around 380, that's why I need to check up on this stuff. Anyway, no more talking for tonight, lol, I have lost all my sleep time, I just can't sleep. I have to wake up in 2 hours to get ready for my 1 hour drive to work, and 10 hour work day, then my 1 hour back to pick someone up to bring them BACK, so another 1 hour drive. It's crap.

Re: Buying a '94 'stang, need info on the engine.
Looks like a stock 5.0 to me. No way 380 HP is getting through a stock intake manifold, stock 60mm throttle body, and stock 19 lb injectors.
The heads are iron from what I see. Look to see if there is 3 vertical bars on the front of them. If so it is a Cobra longblock. If not, just a stock replacement motor. (most likely.) I'd still buy it for 2500 bucks, though. Good pictures, I was able to blow them up pretty good to tell some details.

Re: Buying a '94 'stang, need info on the engine.
For $2500 it looks like a decent car. 380hp or not. Needs to be cleaned up some. Those wheel wells look disgusting.

Every Cobra motor I have seen has had the engine builders signatures pressed into metal sheets that said it was a Special Vehicle Teams car. I think this tag was attached to the intake? Maybe this is different since it is a crate motor, but I would kinda still expect it. Just a thought.

Also, I agree with a lot of you guys on two things. That really does not look like a Cobra motor, but like SVTCobra said, check for those bars and see what heads it has. $2500 for it is a pretty good deal anyways, even if its not a Cobra motor. However, even that depends on how much he beat on it, you know.

I agree with SVTcobra, theres no way he's making that kind of power with that intake manifold. He's probably got a steep gear in it like a 4.10 if its pulling like that. Car looks like its worth the $2500 even if it had no motor.
