'95 Explorer Power Windows

I HAD an intermittent problem w/my power windows...they either ALL worked or they ALL didn't (from either the driver's side master switch or their respective switches). Now they don't work at all. The fuse is OK. I looked at a wiring diagram and there seems to be several thingamajigs involved: 1. Generic Electronic Module 2. Battery Saver Relay 3. Accessory Delay Relay and a 4. One Touch Down Relay. These thingamajigs are common to all 4 windows so I figure it's got to be one of them. They are supposed to be located behind center of Inst. Panel, even though I wouldn't know how to get to them or what they would look like. The dealership was hesitant to give me any answers but they were glad to look into it if I dropped the vehicle off...for $80/HR !! IF there's anyBUDDY out there that has had this problem AND had it resolved, please shoot. Normal policy on electronic parts is that once you buy them, you can't return them. I want to minimize what I have to spend for gaining this experience (like anybody else).

Can't guarrentee(spelling) it's the fix but real cheap to try. Disconnect your battery for at least 10 minutes. While it's disconnected, clean both connectors and posts. Reconnect and make sure all is tight. This worked for me once with dash lights and they are controlled by the same module. Whatever the fix, please follow up and post it here so we all can learn something.

I have the exact same problem with my 96 Explorer. Have you found anything that works yet?

One more thing I forgot to mention...while the windows were not working this winter I had to replace the battery. I cleaned the posts and connectors at that time. Needless to say it had no affect on the windows which is why I am requesting info on fixing this!

They are located in the relay module behind center of instrument panel, just below your temp controls.

I have completed 3 out of the 4 things mentioned: changed 2. Battery Saver Relay 3. Accessory Delay Relay and a 4. One Touch Down Relay. And I've checked the fuse which was fine. The next thing I am going to try is the Generic Electronic Module but I have been told I need to remove the radio to get to it. Any suggestions on where I start with that?

I found the fix to the problem. The main power wire coming into the driver’s side door had broken. There is a large connector and rubber boot bringing the wires into the door. Every time the door opens the wires flex and in my case, and from what I've heard many others, the wire has broken (I actually had two broken wires). After talking with many others it appears this is the fix to numerous problems as there are 20+ wires that go into the drivers side door and the power for all the windows goes into the drivers side door first (blue and black wire). Therefore if any of your windows don't work, or locks, or power mirrors, or speaker, it could be a broken wire here.

hoobs, Did you fix this yourself? easy? if so, where did you purchase the power wire?

I bought some 14 gauge stranded wire at Menards along with some wire crimps and spliced in a new section of wire.

This worked for me. 96 Explorer power windows, front/rear wipers, door chime, was not working. Batter disconnect worked. Thanks.
