I have a 90 LeSabre Limited and my reverse lights are not working. I replaced the bulbs and nothing. The turn signals work fine. I noticed tonight that the reverse lights appear to flash briefly when shifting between park and drive. I am thinking this may be related to my gear "shift indicator" not showing what gear I am in. For example when it shows reverse, I am actually in drive. Any suggestions on how to fix these problems or if they are even related? Thanks!

Re: reverse lights
Look on the transmission where the neutral safety switch is (on the transmission where the gearshift cable connects to). The neutral safety switch detects when the car is in park or neutral. You will find a second switch for when you are in reverse gear. This second switch lights up your backup lights. Since it sometimes works, it may just need an adjustment of some kind.

Thanks for the info, I'll check that out. Will it be obvious which switch is which?
Thanks again, Leo 1990 LeSabre Limited |

Re: reverse lights
You only have one switch on the trans. You have 2 bolts that hold downthe safety switch, loosen the 2 bolts and move the switch till the lights work while in reverse. Your indicator is attached to your shift bowl by a cable. You will need to get to the cable and unclip it move to adjust your indicator.

Thanks, I'll try to get under there in the next couple days and take a look. Hopefully, it's something that simple.
