Post Factory CD players

Recently purchased a loaded 97 LT Blazer. The tape player in it is shot, and I am thinking about getting one of the factory CD players for it. 3 questions:

1) Will the factory tape player wiring fit one of the factory cd players?

2) What years are interchangable on the CD players?

3) Those of you who have the Delco CD players, how durable are they?

New to the board but it looks like there is tons of information!

Thanks in advance!

check with your local chevy dealer first,i didn't know they sold them.
we went in to get a new fuel line and they sell the radios out of the new cars/trucks that were changed out for customers.
really good prices,too.
if not we bought a new radio/cd player, sony xploid for our 1994 blazer through crutchfield and it only took about an hour to put it in.all the install stuff comes with the order including instructions.

Re: Factory CD players

I think I have the answers to the wiring and interchange, I really would like to hear from some of you who have the Delco CD player though. Are they holding up well or have you NEEDED to replace it?

It's been my experience that unless you have the BOSE system with the BOSE head unit from GM, the overall system sucks. You should really look into a Pioneer or Alpine head unit. You will save a lot of money (a new head unit from GM is about 700 dollars vs 200 for a good one from CC, www.crutchfield.com, or Best Buy)... Even used a lot of those gm head units are still 300 bux... Why pay that amount for a mediocre unit when you can pay 200-300 bux for an outstanding head unit?

Re: Factory CD players

From my experience... they suck, underpowered and have trouble playing burned CDs. I did get better FM reception with it though.

Re: Factory CD players

i have a ac delco in my 95 blazer without the bose system. it is holding up great. plays every burnt CD i put in there, still plays loud and gets good reception. i was thinking about buying an aftermarket radio, which plays MP3. email me at [email protected], if you are interested in mine.

Mine would play the CD-Rs too, but I had to clean it constantly. It would play store bought CDs great anytime, but had to be clean to play the CD-Rs.

Re: Factory CD players

It could be, because of all the dusty roads in FL.

Re: Factory CD players

Just remember guys, if you replace the head unit, you might as well replace the speakers.

The stock head unit is made for 6ohm speakers whereas the aftermarket is made for 4 ohm.

So in essence , when you put in the aftermarket headunit, you won't get good sound out of the factory speakers.

I installed a pioneer premier headunit and went with infinity speakers (super cheap off of ebay) and the sound is crazy!

My CD player busted about 4 years after we got it. Then my dad got me a bottom of the barrel $150 radio. But it dose work, doesn't sound good but dosen't sound bad either.

Re: Factory CD players

Yip, if you replaced the speakers with the 4 ohm standard aftermarket variety, it will sound a lot better.
