Question Rust Question

I just took my tail lights out to paint them red, and i noticed that the metal part that the rear bumper screws into is COMPLETLY rusted out. The bumper doesnt sag or anything, but im afraid that itll just fall off or something. I looked online, and i think that the piece is the rear cross member. Can someone let me know if im right so that i can order a new one, and has this problem happened to anyone else? (Maine weather sucks)

Re: Rust Question

Welcome to the effects of salt on a metal chassis. There's really no way to repair it unless you literally want to start replacing chassis pieces, body panels, yadda yadda. Your best bet is to pull off the rear bumper and see how bad the rust is under there. If it's really bad, start replacing things piece by piece, according to rust severity. Then, quit driving your car in the winter!
