keyless entry programming

I want to program a factory keyless entry transmitter. I have 1995 Chevy Silverado with the 454 engine and power door locks. I have read information that speaks to shorting pin 4 to 8 on the OBD connector under the dash. I believe that pertains to the OBD II and I assume my pickup is OBD I because the connector has 12 pins and not 16. I have also read information that speaks to shorting pin "A" to pin "G". Again my connector appears to be different in that there are no connector pins in places "A" and/or "G".
Am I missing something or is there a third type of connector configuration? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: keyless entry programming

Or you have the wrong key fob, numbers on the back of the key fob have to match the vehicle and there is a tester made by Kent Moore to test this.I know what the tester looks like and most dealers have it.

Re: keyless entry programming

Make sure you are reading the pin layout correctly. The wider row is considered the top, many DLC connectors are mounted upside down.
