Diesel in the Gasoline

Ok my dad's brother back in 1971 was able to get his hands on a fairly new 1968 Corvette. He was looking for ways to improve the performance and an old mechanic who had worked on cars since the 30's told him to put a mixture of about 10% diesel into the gasoline. He said that since diesel burns hotter and longer it'd burn all the carbon off the valves, pistons, and other things.
Well he did this and told my dad he could see a difference in performance and said the thing ran better. He also added that one night he really hit it and saw small glowing bits of carbon shoot from his exhaust pipes.
Well he was in a car wreck and killed a couple of months later and my dad never got the name of the mechanic, forgot the mixture, and the car was totalled so the long term affects weren't know.
I'm wanting to know if any of you guys have heard these stories or have tried anything like this. I've talked to several people about this and some have never heard about and some say it's useless, does nothing, and will ruin your engine. I've also heard a couple say diesel is the wrong choice and jet fuel is better.
Anyway, any input from you guys would be greatly appreciated because I really would like to know if this works.

Re: Diesel in the Gasoline

Sounds sorta farfetched. Half a quart or so of Diesel fuel in your tank is pretty much the same as dumping injector cleaner in. Don't do it when it's really cold out.

What they mean by jet fuel is JP4 or 8, which, JP4 is a 50/50 mix of MoGas (regular grade gasoline) and Diesel fuel anyway, JP8 is a 50/50 mix of Diesel fuel and Kerosene, which makes a diesel motor run like a raped ape (modern military we use almost 100% JP8) but also under extended use the kerosene, being really oil free, will wear out injector pumps, and probly wouldn't be good for your electric fuel pumps.

I have used diesel in lieu of injector cleaner for years. Cheaper and just as effective.

No problem, I hope that didn't come off sounding like I was trying to be an ass. I wasn't trying to be.
