Will a bad TPS couse misfire?
I read my codes and it says the TPS is failing and I have a misfire on cylinder #3. Also when have it in park and rev it up it blow black smoke. Burning rich but the codes say nothing about the o2 sensor. Might it be just the TPS?

Re: Will a bad TPS couse misfire?
most likely. black smoke usually indicates gas, and white usually oil.

Re: Will a bad TPS couse misfire?
Coolant is white, oil is blue, fuel is black. But in most cases these colors are so damn close to each other you're fooling yourself if you think you can tell. Sometimes it is obvious though. Its actually easier to go by smell.
TPS doesnt really do much. It wont affect thigns enough to cuase a misfire or smoke. The ECU uses airflow per rev and a few other parameters to determine AFR, TPS is not used. It does however proved an accelerator pump function, like the old carbeurated motors mecahnical accelerator pump. Edit> It also wouldnt cause a misfire specific to cylinder 3. It would random, ethier in specific cylinder DTCs, or as an actual Random Misfire DTC. Typically, if the cylinder that is getting the code is conistent, it is something to do with that cylinder.
