Insane Footage of Apache Helicopters minigun

this vid's sick, and Metallica playing in the background is just the cherry on top.

Apache.... right, let's see what I can do.

The Apache is has a belly mounted M230 chaingun, a single barrel, not-gatling gun.

There was much more additional footage, most of which was from a UH-1 Huey, armed with an GE M134 gatling gun, same one in T2. Normally these things are mounted on vehicles, you actually see an old UH-1 in the background of T2, suggesting where it came from.

Lastly, they had footage of Monster Garage's Rx-7 'Sandrail' which failed horribly, and was shot by Dillon Minigun mounted on a Suburban. which is a derivative of the M134.

I actually found a link to this video under the M134 title. So sorry, but this isn't Apache footage, not entirely anyways.

Re: Insane Footage of Apache Helicopters minigun

none of those were AH-64 Apaches

They were UH1H Huey's... and a few MD500's.

And looked more like Vietnam/Korea footage more than Iraq...

Anybody else notice the Chevy starter lookin thing ontop of the minigun? I suppose a fast turning, high torque electric motor such as a starter motor would work great for turning the barrels of a mini-gun. Way to outsource. hehe.

Overall, damn impressive! Good find!

Yeah, forgot to mention the MD500's. But now it's confirmed there's no Apache's. You could tell by the firing rate too, the M230 fires 625 spm wheras the other two are 3000-4000 spm.

BTW, it's just listed as an external 3hp motor for the Apache's gun, prolly sometihng similar on the others, wonder how fast this thing spins?

It's not the bullets that glow, it's the tracer.

The tracer helps the pilot track where his bullets are going.

Tracer ammunition uses a bullet that contains a pyrotechnic composition (similar to that used in a flare) in a hollow base, which is ignited by the cartridge powder when fired.

It's almost like a chemical round as opposed to your standard steel, copper, lead or otherwise round.

Here's a really nice article for you to read:
