Re: Tires Enquiry
Well, seeing how it's a '01 GT, I'd imagine the normal size for the tires should be 225/x/16's. I would double check with your tire dealer, but i'd imagine you wouldn't want to go any further than 235/x/16's.
Your really going to want to find this from a dealer, should be able to call them and ask them. It's not really a stupid question, it's a matty of inquiry. Good luck though.

Re: Tires Enquiry
Seen some GP's with 20" but ugly. Don't know why anyone would put anything over 17". I run stock 16's. Just like the look and price of tires.

Re: Tires Enquiry
Alot of people are running 245/50-16 on stock rim's.This question get's asked alot.Ive been leaning towards a 225/55-16 on stock rim's.But with my aftermarket rims,I like really like the look of the 255/50-16.
This is what www.discounttiredirect.com say's we can run on stock rim's STOCK 225/60-16 PLUS ZERO 235/60-16 245/50-16

Re: Tires Enquiry
I didn't think that the stock GP tires for the '97 would be able to take a 245. Isn't the rim either 16x6 or 6.5? I believe on my '92 with the golden crosslaced it's 16x7.5 and the 245's I run seem to be just good enough. I may be wrong, but I don't know about the 245's on them, i'd be safe and stick with 235's.
BTW, usually running the sidewall height 5 pts lower shouldn't offset your speedometer. Example, 225/60/16 = same height as 235/55/16.

Re: Tires Enquiry
This might seem like a silly question, but i really dont know now for sure, lol, does the *225* in 225-60-16 determine the height of the tire by that i mean the distance between the wheel edge and the outer tire, i guess the thickness, lol. because right now i have 215-60-16 on my 95 grand prix GTP. I did have some crappy mis-matched 225-60-16s when i first bought the car and sometimes when i would hit a hard bump in the road one of the rear tires would scrape the wheel wall, ...so i bought the 215 insead. but now that i think about it i wonder if my shocks are just a lil worn out.

60 =sidewall height (I believe this is supposed to be a % of the width so 225/60 would be sidewall of 225*.6 = 135mm sidewall.) 16= size of the rim in inches. I have a 00 GTP and run 255/50/ZR17...don't go this big, I have huge problems with scrubbing on my outer wheel well while going over dips in the road. The biggest thing you have to look at when upgrading is to make sure your outside diameter (tire) doesn't go over the max recommended OD i think OD on our cars is somewhere around 26.5". |

sorry to hijack this tread, but what would you guys recommend for tires. I live in Iowa, so I need something that can get me around in the winter, but I also want a tire that can hug the road in the summer. by the way, I got a 94 GTP with 255x60x16
thanks -josh |

Right now I have Kumho's on my rims. I paid about $450 total for the install and everything. It was the best deal, lol. The tires I replaced were Goodyear Eagle GS-C's, which are $169/tire. That was out of my price range, lol.
I have found the Kumho ECSTA 711's to be great, they have as good of grip as i'd expect from tires as wide as it is. They have been really great in the summer though. Although i'd perfer the Goodyear's, these have been just fine. ![]() ![]() Almost don't want to show the tires, they are dirty as all hell.
