95 jetta wierd

I have red that someone had a problem with aftermarket coils also but I have a situation where my original coil was cracked and would run lousy or not at all in wet/very damp weather or environment and replaced it with a new one. After replacement--No Spark. Took back the new one for exchange--No Spark. The store had no more in stock so I went to another major auto parts store and got a differant brand -- NO SPARK! Do you really believe that all three including two diff manufacturers are all bad? Put my old one on (unfortunately it fell off the car when replacing the first one and now it is being held together with tape) and it started right up. Could this be due to another problem like the hall effect cam sensor not sending the signal to fire but the original coil is just firing all the time without the sensor input or am I just dreaming and I should shell out the money for a dealer coil? BTW its a 95 jetta 2.0 w/at @63000 miles. Just seems hard to believe but I dont know how much a dealer coil assy is but I know that my next two parts to try are the cam sensor for about 79 bucks and the the ECU at $280. This is not how I want to spend this kind of money when I could get an awful lot of pints for that much!

I would say take it to your local VW dealer and have them look at it. It seems odd to me that no other coils are working.

well i guess this is my next question. It seems that people are saying that it is the power stage part of the unit that is bad on the aftermarket parts. What if I drill out the rivets and put the new coil on my old power stage? I know it wont be easy to reconnect them and I wont be able to return the coil then but it was $60 my cost and the dealer one is about $160 and the only things left are the hall sensor or the ecu from what I read in the book and got from other posts and both of them are more (hall $79 and ECU $280) so I figure what the heck. Is there a way to find out if my power stage is bad? I bought a LED meter and tested pin 2 and got voltage present before cranking and flashing after cranking (BTW I found out the hard way that LED test lights are polar specific so if you put it on backwards you will not get any light just so others know!). I believe this to be correct but I am not sure. Anyone think I am on the right track or am I just peeing up a rainpipe?

I've never had problems with the aftermarket coils, others have complained of issues just like yours. If your coil will spark then so should the others.
