turbo lag is the time it takes your turbo to spool up to the psi you want. get a larger engine or a smaller turbo

Well, there are other things that can help as well. Remember that backpressure is your enemy. Installing a full three inch exhaust from the turbo all the way back will help greatly to reduce turbo lag. Make sure you are using a straight-through muffler and not something like a Flowmaster. A better flowing exhaust manifold or a header will help as well. These will help in getting the exhaust gases out of the cylinder faster. This will result in a more responsive throttle and faster spool times.

By the way, what turbo are you using and on what engine? What size is the turbo and when is it spooling up?

Re: Will someone take a min to explain what turbo lag is 4 me

to prevent tubro lag u can get a Blow Off Valve instead of building pressure inside ur engine and backing it up so far to stop ur compressors or slow them down u get a blow off valve witch blows out all the exsessie air and keeps the compressors running at witch speed that air comes in

dude you are completely wrong. your talking about when a turbo is already in full boost. they are talking about before a turbo is fully spooled because of the turbo lag sometimes it takes a while of the turbo to hit full boost

Re: Will someone take a min to explain what turbo lag is 4 me

actually, in a grammtically horrible way, he's correct. bov vents off the built up pressure in the pipes to allow the turbine to keep spinning, which will reduce lag between shifts

Re: Will someone take a min to explain what turbo lag is 4 me

its a given that a turbo system will have ablow off valve. i dont think the original poster was talking aobut then when he said turbo lag.

and if you dont have a blow off valve, the last thing your worrying about is lag, you should be more worried about blowing yoru turbo

what you just described here is called compressor surge, not turbo lag. but i guess i dont know anything about turbos. and if you knew about turbos, you would have known that. i think you need to go learn about turbos.

and only a noob would describe compressor surge as turbo lag. and only a noob like you would build a turbo kit without a bov

Re: Re: Re: Will someone take a min to explain what turbo lag is 4 me

yes enuf of that luts answer the guys question. bov valves are the best but are not recomemdid for street driven cars it also isnt that good for your car because it has to blow up all the acces gas out of your exahst[thats why it makes flames] blow off vaualves suck unless u have a very high boosted turbo. i sudgest i dividter vaulvle instead of blowign all the presure into the otmasphere like a blowoff vauvle does it wrotes it back into your intake.

p.s. sorry if i cant speel for shit

Re: Will someone take a min to explain what turbo lag is 4 me

you also cant think for shit. i almost think youre talking about a wastegate with the whole dumping exhaust into the atmosphere, but no, you just have no idea what youre talking about

Re: Will someone take a min to explain what turbo lag is 4 me

For starters, the BOV has nothing to do with the exhaust. It's connected to the pipe that is directly connected to your throttle body. It helps get excess pressure out before entering into your motor. It has nothing to do with a high boost turbo kit, even VW's that come stock with a turbo running like 8 psi; have a BOV. When you run higher boost you just need a better BOV that will blow off the extra pressure; when your old one isn't sufficient enough. Or people will replace them for ones that give them the sound they like.

And man... I'm the last person to ever bring up someone's spelling problems, because it's annoying when people correct or insult someone over spelling. But come on man, put some effort into writing words correctly. If you can't form complete sentences that people can understand and read, then you shouldn't be posting.
