Unhappy 1991 Chevrolet S-10 loss of power/rough engine idle

After I crank up my S-10 and drive approximately 2 miles it starts idling rough and looses power, even stalling. What could be the trouble?

Might want to clean the egr valve. My 95 s-10 has a egr valve that requires cleaning every few months. I know when it is time to clean it as the engine intermittently runs rougher than hell. It is a 10 minute job to take it off clean up (get the plunger to float freely) and put it back on. Runs great for another 3 months or so. I am to darn cheap to replace it with a new one. I bought one of those gaskets with a screen that is supposed to keep the carbon out but doesn't seem to help.

Wow, every 3 months? I cleaned mine once in 3 years and that was only because I had the intake manifold off already. You shouldn't needed to clean it that often and there might be something wrong either with the egr valve or something else.
