Unhappy I don't want to start smoking

She just had to pick the perfect time of year to start this crap. Ever since I got her back from the mechanic on her 50 point inspection she is puffing out blue smoke. The very first morning afterwards I got her back, I started her up, went around back to put in my new sub box and blue tinted smoke is just pouring outta the tail pipe. Then after maybe 30 seconds, she quits and starts blowing white steam out due to the coldness like normal. Then again this morning she does it again.

I know I'm leaking oil, but I've never in my whole time driving her seen blue smoke coming outta the tailpipe before. I need to know where to start looking. Any suggestions?

Re: I don't want to start smoking

seals in the engine...it does that at low rpm/idle correct? mine does it when i punch it, anything above 4k and mine starts burning oil and spitting it (literally) out of the exhaust pipe. The white smoke i believe is coolant, so you have a few things to check out. I think some seals in the engine finally decided to give out after all these years.

Almost sounds like you are getting oil leaking into your cylinders over night or something like that, so when you first start her in the morning she's burning it all out.

It's defintely collecting somewhere and when I first start her up, she'll spit it all out and then regular exhaust fumes come out. So what seals are we talking about here?

And Ice-x, it's defintely not pure white smoke. I forgot to elaborate a little more on that. It's just so cold out, that it just steams, that's all.

Re: I don't want to start smoking

If your "lucky" it might be just the head gasket. You can test the compression to see if it's the rings. GL

i dont really have any input on that ...just what they said, valve guids and head gasket.
mine scared the crap ut of me today.. it put out the biggest cloud of smoke this morning after leting it idle for maybe 5 min. i know mine is valve guides and piston rings...but i thought that was my head gasket (3rd time...lol) but im lucky it just needs to hold on for another week so i can get my d15b vtec in.

Re: I don't want to start smoking

Well imma drop a line in experience. My friends dad had the same problem with his celica. He took it to the dealership and had them look at it and fix it. They thought it was the head gasket and it did the same thing. And he went there again and the same thing happened. A toyota tech looked at it and saw that it was not a gasket it was the cylinder walls themselves. The tech said that over the years the cylinder wears out the walls alil bit and makes them oval. (sp i think..i duno) Thats b/c the cylinders dont go perfectly up and down they start to go up on and angle pressing on the cylinder wall.
So if its your stock motor you might need a new one.....or atleast your gona keep buring oil until you do. I hope it is just a gasket somewhere but i just wanted to let you know what else to check for. If that is the problem it might be cheaper to get a new block.. i duno tho. good luck.

Re: I don't want to start smoking

Well this morning it actually didn't smoke much. I guess when i tighten the valve cover bolts more, it must've done something, but I really can't say at this point. Thanks for all your input, I'm working on getting the majority of the seals replaced.
