77 gmc suburban

Have a 1977 suburban with full time 4 wheel drive with recently rebuilt trans, engine, and diffs. about $4,000 has been invested but it STILL has electrical problems that will drain the battery. 4 count them 4 shops have checked it out, one of them replaced the electric choke but the problem still exists. If you leave the battery connected for more than about 48 hours it will go below 10V. this is the 6th battery that has been in there in the past 2 years, the last 5 were free since they failed so soon.

What else other than the electric choke could fail on this old beast causing the battery to go dead. The radio is basic so it is not that since it does not even have a clock on it.

Any ideas????

Re: 77 gmc suburban

anything that has juice running to it when the key is off,
with the key off and a test light check each fuse, some will have juice and some wont. start there, any that have juice running to them.
they should be lighter, brake lights, horn, anything that will work with the key off, now isolate ones that work when the key is off that should have juice when the key is off and ones that shouldn't, that should tak about a week.
if the truck runs good and you don't mind doing the hood thing you can put a battery switch in on the battery terminal. available for about ten buck at wal mart or any boat supply or auto parts store. me personaly, i'ld just do the switch. iHate electrical problems.
its most likely a pinched wire done during enginne change so i would look any where the engine could have pinched, starter sel., trans., motor mounts,
goooooood luck
