ZR2 pulls left after ingaging 4HI

After sitting for months, I needed my 99-ZR2 for snow travel. After ingaging 4HI it starting pulling to the left. A few seconds later there was a banging sound up front. This sound continued every few seconds...I then went back to 2HI. I heard the x-fer case shift, the 2HI light came on, then there was a huge bang up front. It felt like the front hit a speed bump...The pull continued in 2HI. The only way to stop the pull was to go in reverse...I tried this about 20 times at diff. speeds. After having the x-fer case replaced, the banging sound went away, but the pulling problem is still there after repeating the same steps. The mechs. think it is still the x-fer case. I don't see how this would cause the pulling. After all, the x-fer case seems to be working properly because it's job is to engage the front shaft. Right? Help...

I had the same problem in my last truck, it was the automatic hub. The lock-out is not engauging or disengauging all the way.
