does anyone know how to get to the heater core from the engine compartment side.

wat do u mean like take it out??? i did mine not too long ago on my blazer and i had to unscrew the dash so i could pull it ou alil bit and then u have to pull it out inside the truck, i dont think its possible from outside

You can't get to the heater from the engine compartment, you have to get it out from the passenger area.

i suggest if you gonna change it yourself, you find wrecker that lets you take your own parts out with your own tools. i knew mine was leaking so went to such a wrecker. found same model. went at it. it was an extreme pain. the tricky part is the coppertubse that are only soldered to the core ar long and bent where they go thru firewall to connect to haeter hoses. in trying to force it out or in you may crack the soldr seals. cost was $10.

Are you kidding? He's got a '93.. A brand new one is $20. Why spend all that time taking a used one (that may leak) out of another truck just to save $10?

guess i should have quoted us$. i in canada. new was quoted $60 wtx. r tx = 17%. so about $50 new. parts down there are certainly cheaper. which means at wrecker where you could do free practice at removing something, not worrying if you break anything, you may pay as little as $5. easy to tell if it may leak and they let you return if it no good. had troulbe with wreck dash so crowbared it out of way ;-)

I'm in Canada and I would rather buy a new one for 50 than spend money or a used one that might blow out in 2 days or 10 years.

Do it once, do it right, and forget about it.

go to the inside and pull the glove box and ash tray and back of the glove box and the passenger side floor board side and maybe the vacuum contol there and undo the computer bolt just to get more room. Look under the dash and find the bolts holding the black plastic cover and look thru the hole created by the removed glove box and ashtray and find the bolts which are a little hard to get to but can be done and remove them . Then mannuver the cover off. the core should now be exposed and find the brackets holding it in on the right and left just remove one bolt on each side and bend them out of the way. Remove the hoses in the engine compartment and pull out from the inside. The hard part may be the side vent connections coming off the cover . Just keep off and tape over the hole if it is too hard to get back in .

I just replaced my heater core in my 92 S-10 4x4 Blazer for the 2nd time since I bought it new in 92.

Cost was $36.00 for a new one.

As hard as they are to change I would not even think of putting a used one in.

Its worth the extra $$ to know you have new one that will last a while.
