programming remotes jumping 4&8 doesnt work

HI! I have a 96 Bonneville, purchased 2 correct remotes that were tested to work, I have tried programming by jumping 4 & 8 method but that doesnt work, I jump, turn the key to run position and nothing happens, the GM dealer says it takes 1/2 hour= $45
Why does this seem to work for everyone here but me? I check the OB2 connector and I am jumping the correct wires.

what year bonneville do you have??? sometimes it takes a little work to get the pins jumper if your just doing it with wires... also the door locks have to lock and unlock when the pins are jumped... did that happen??? please leave more details

It's a 1996, the door locks didnt do anything, I thought I could hear a faint clicking from under the dash but the door locks did nothing, what else can I do besides useing a wire to jump?
Should I drop the OB2 connector down and strip the 2 wires and then jump to get a good contact?

hmm im not sure and no problem for the reply... im sorry but I still have more questions... the first being, do you have the correct fob??? Can you explain what it looks like, and or if your sure that you have the correct one then you do not have to tell me, the second is, are you sure that that is the correct programming intructions for the 96 Bonneville??? I know the programming for the 92-95 bonneville is jumping 4&8 atleast for my 94, BUT I also do know that the fob used in the 92-95 is different than the one used in 1996, so maybe the instructions are different... ill check for you, im just trying to make sure that everything is cool before you have to go into anything durastic like cutting the OBD II off...

ok well I was searching the forum for ya and I did find directions that are similar to just grounding pin 4 to pin 8 but there is a little more work involved. I guess that im glad that I have to only jump 4 to 8 haha its easy... ANYWAYS these instructions I found posted by another member it is for a 97 Bonneville... dont know if it will work but hey its worth a shot right??? ok well here goes


first make sure you have the correct keyless remote check with your local dealer then if correct do these next 6 steps before starting procedure get a fused jumper wire #1 turn ignition switch off #2 using a fused jumper jump terminal 8 blk/wht to terminal 4 blk on the data link connector close all doors #3 turn ignition switch on door locks cycle #4 press and hold lock and unlock buttons on the remote hold for about 30 seconds or so locks will cycle again #5 to program another remote repeat step four but during this whole process DO NOT TURN KEY SWITCH OFF #6 disconnect your jumper wire from the data link connector now at this point it is okay to turn ignition switch off but not until this point

This is the only thread that I found that is closest to a 96 bonneville and not a 95 bonneville... so give it a try and email me or reply back to the thread and let me kno!!! Good luck!

ok you know what im an idiot, you already bought the correct remotes AND you already have had them checked for the battery power.. im sorry I forgot that

ok well good luck other than that im out of ideas.... keep trying because I KNOW that it takes talent to hold the pins (4 and 8) together for a period of time, but good luck to you and please let me know if it worked cuz id like to know too!!! but keep tryin a few more times I guess and hey, maybe a fuse is blown, maybe the module is gone, hell maybe its something simple but good luck to ya!

Thanks for all the advice, I didnt have the chance to try when I got home from work but will try in the morning.
I am sure the remotes are correct because I had the original remote but it stopped working, in the past I just resoldered the battery holder in the remote back onto the circut board, but this time it didnt work so I found 2 remotes on Ebay with all the same numbers and markings on the back as the original one and it looked the same on the front and then I placed new batteries in.
Maybe I had a poor conection trying to jump the 4 & 8 connectors so I hope this works or maybe it is the circut board under the dash of the car as it sounds like they do go out.
I will post Thursday evening what happens,

The remotes definately have to be the FCC: KOBUT1BT / GM: 25678792 and here is the process that works:

here's how to do it.
Turn ignition switch "off"
Using a fused jumper, (or bent paper clip) jump data line connector terminal 8 (blk/wht) to terminal 4 Blk close all doors
turn ignition switch "on" door locks cycle
press and hold lock and unlock button on one transmitter alter a 30 second delay the doors will lock and unlock
repeat step to program extra transmitters
do not turn off ignition, if switch is turned off the first transmitter will become inoperative.
disconnect jumper from DLC

Hi everyone!

I may be out of luck, the locks wont cycle when jumping 4 & 8 wires, my remote is correct, and no blown fuses.
Does that that mean my circut board in the car is bad? and if so where is it located? under the dash?
