voltage gauge

Here I am again searching for answeres before I shell out cash. My volt gauge is reading much higher than normal. If I drive more than one hour it will raise dangerously high. Recently replaced battery and have newer starter (with lifetime warrenty), I'm scared to drive at night and get stranded. Thanks for the help...again

First thing that comes to my mind is voltage regulator. When your voltmeter goes high, do your lights get brighter? In my town we have a gentleman that deals with batteries and batteries only. He's always more than willing to throw the meters on the battery and let you know what's wrong. Whether he makes a battery sale or not. Got anybody like that close by? If so, run the vehicle until the gauge starts going high and pull in.
