Question PK3 Question

I have a 2000 chevy venture with delayed starting problems. We have decided that nobody really has a clue on the pk3 system at all, (not even the dealer) and so I am trying to understand the book I have from AC Delco on the passkey system. When I read through the book it reads like there is a coil around the key lock cylinder that works as the exciter for the transponder in the key so that it will communicate with the pk3 module. I am just wondering if anyone knows if the exciter for the key transponder is in the lock cylinder or if it is in the pk3 module that goes around the lock cylinder. Everyone I talk to says its in the module but the book actually makes it sound like it isn't. We have replaced the pk3 module and that didn't fix the problem so I'm thinking that maybe it is in the cylinder and wondering if I shouldn't replace that. I am just wondering if the resistors or coils could be worn which would cause the delay in starting. Sometimes it starts right up and other times I have to hold the key in the start position for 3-10 seconds before it will fire. Any help is appreciated.

Re: PK3 Question

Your problem seems to have nothing at all to do with the transponder or security system. It sounds like a simple old-fashioned bad ignition switch. If it was a pass-key system problem, the car would start right away, but the "security" light would come on giving you about 5 minutes of run time before the car shuts down.

My 2003 Venture has the same problem. It's not the ignition switch. I've been told that the theft-deterrent control module is defective.
