throtte cable out of whack

i noticed my throttle cable wasn't opening all the way at WOT. Maybe about 70%. So i searched on here for adjustments and found 2 write-ups 95_GSXRacer did. I followed them exactly. But after I did it, the cable was way too tight and when the pedal was let go the throttle was still open. The car also has cruise control. I messed with that a few months ago when i thought i had to detatch the cables from it when pulling the head. I never actually took them off, just loosened and retightened. My problem is that every way i've tried to adjust it, it would open all the way when the pedal is floored, its just that when it is released the throttle WILL NOT CLOSE all the way. I ended up confusing myself and simply can't figure out how to adjust every cable exactly.

The problem is probably not in the adjustment method, but in the parts themselves. Did you boliix something up with the CC? See if you are getting full actuation at the CC box with the pedal. Find out where the missing 30% is.

If you are pulling the cable jacket ALL THE WAY with the throttle pedal floored, as I decribed in those posts, it has to be a mechanical issue. Thats why I do the adjustment this way, there is no room for screwing up. Unless you dont pull the cable tight with the pedal floored. Though you probably are, since you are getting full open with it floored, which again points to a mechanical problem.

This is just another reason why I like to toss the CC in the basket. 25 bucks for the non cruise cable, gets rid off all the linkages that go bad, gets rid of two more cables, makes more room in the engine bay, and gets you much better throttle range, feel, and response. Cruise can also just plain not work well with big setups. But I understand some poeple jsut have to have it. Take a look and see where you are losing that travel. There are other adjustments at the CC box that you may have screwed up. In the mean time set it for a slight bit of slack with the throttle released and the TB closed. That way it will at least run again, which I'm sure you already did, until you fiure it out.

Yes, i "tuned" a little more with the CC box. I have it so it won't open at idle, but still gets me maybe half an inch or so away from the TB stop. The more and more i fool around with it, the more and more I like the idea of the non-cruise cable. The cruise doesn't work anyway. Not sure why, but I could really care less about it. I think tomorrow i will pull the CC box and take a closer look at it.

I think I may have screwed with the CC box when i first started taking the head off, but i think i only loosened one cable before i realized i didn't need to mess with it. Of course, this problem may have been there even before i bought it, since I never remember the pedal having as much range as i got it to have today.

If you have any inclination to not needing the cruise, toss that shit! Get the other cable at the dealer for 25-30 bucks and end this nightmare I posted the part number on RKO if you want to search there for it.

Yes, i found it by doing a quick search there: MB948632. I noticed you have a 95, is this the same for my 90?

Its 3:10am and i know if i start researching this I will be up all night, but is this relatively easy to do? Doesn't seem that bad. Can't be as bad as the time i needed to get those cam gears off a couple months ago. Let's just say in that experience i used so many 4 letter words, i think i'm gonna go to hell.

Install is a snap. I'm sure you already know how to disconnect the cable at the TB. At the pedal there is a plastic clip in the pedal. Push it out, then the cable can slide out through the slot in the pedal. In the engine bay, the cable jacket bolts to the firewall with 2 10mm bolts. Thats it.

To reinstall, bolt that shit back on the firewall, slide the cable into the pedal and snap the plastic clip back in, and attach to the TB. Proceed to toss all that CC BS in the garbage (or at least stash it out of site until all of the horrible memories have been forgotten). Enjoy crisp throttle action and easy adjustment.

Pretty easy Cheap and easy, mods dont get better than this...

I decided to save myself the mental anguish and go with the new cable. I appreciate all your help Kevin!! I'll let you know how it goes once i get the cable. One question that you didn't answer (i edited my last post, maybe you read it before i edited it) Is the cable the same for 1g and 2g?

Defintely not the same. 1Gs actually had the option of no CC. All turbo 2Gs had cruise. This cable number is from a 82 omni or some bullshit I have no idea. Its a little long but it works. I assumed ytou had a 2g for some unknown reason, I'm a dumbass. The 1g part number is easy to find, but even without the dealer should easily be able to get it since its a normal part. Just a throttle cable for a 90 without cruise. They may even stock it.
