Question remove factory radio

Help! I just recently bought a used JGC with cassett player. I bought a JVC cd player to put in instead but don't know how to remove the factory radio. Anyone got instructions?

I wouldn't trust myself doing this, but you could try looking up from the drivers seat. You are now facing the botom of the dash, and perhaps you will see wires coming out from behind the dash. You will need a small flashlight. Now there are a crapload of wires and you will need to find the ones at the very top. Disconect the wires if possible. Now if you can at all unplug the radio, theres your answer. But I would get it removed profesionally.

What Year is it? I just did this to My 94 JGC. If you know anything about stereo installation, it's not hard, or even if you have a little wiring knowledge. I would say that if this is your first stereo swap, it could take you a while, but it's worth doing.

My biggest problem was getting the new stereo into the old stereo's hole, sinnce the CD was longer than the stock unit.

Buy an adapter kit and a wiring harness. I'm assumming your new stereo is not the same size as the stock stereo(DIN and 1/2). It's probably skinnier top to bottom. you can get these at wal mart.
.

As prep, or back in the "shop" (my shop is my coffee table)

with your new wal mart wiring harness, and the one that should come with your new stereo, match the wires (both should have a list of what wire does what) and solder or butt splice them together. double check your work on this step. no bare wires should be left, any soldered connections should be covered with heat shrink tubing. make sure eack of the wires is hooked up correctly. you can easily do some damage if they aren't.

Mount the Metal sleeve(from your new stereo) into the adapter plate (make sure you read which adapter plate to use, the kit comes with several, to fit different makes and models). the sleeve may come packed already on the head unit. if so, there should be a couple "DIN keys" that you slide down the side slots to unlock it.

remove the trim panels from around the factory stereo. in the 94, it's a big peice with 6 screws(2 behind the ash tray) and a few clips. in some newer models, it's segmented.

remove the lag bolts holding the stereo in. pull the stereo out. unplug all the connectors from the back. you should probably disconnect the battery before doing this

Take your new wiring adapter (that you just put together) and plug it into the plugs from your GC.

Mount your new adapter plate into the spot where your stereo used to be, and pull the wiring harness though it. also pull the antenna cable through.

Now plug the wiring harness into the back of your stereo. same with the antenna cable. slide the stereo into it's sleeve until you feel it click in. put the "dress up" ring on, and you should be all done. I had trouble getting mine to "click in", but was able to with some careful adjustment to the wiring placement.

The first time I did this, it took me 4 hours. Now it takes me about 1-2 hours. Most people find it worth the money to get a pro to do it. I happen to enjoy it a little, and I'm poor, so I can't afford installation fees. All in all, this costs about $20. Best Buy will charge you $50 for the wiring adapter. I don't even wanna think about what they want for labor.

Hope this helps.
