99 Sonata GLS - Looking to buy one

Hi,
I'm planning on buying a 99 sonata GLS. It has 84K miles on it and I'll be test driving it today. Any words of advice regarding reliability, performance etc. I'm mostly concerned about low maintenance..

Thanks!

Sid

If you want reliability buy a Toyota not a Hyundai.

Oh really. It quite sad that, no matter how much the level of quality, reliability and dependability has increased, there are those that think otherwise.

Its funny you talk about reliability when Toyota asked Hyundai to share its technology. Thats something not done if the company wasn't making reliable products. Plus its getting pretty tiresome the misconceptions that people continue to have over the Hyundai brand. The quality and reliability of Hyundai vehicles are close to the top if not tied with Honda (2nd place) in J.D.Powers Initial Quality, 7th in Name Plate Ranking (above Toyota, MB, Acura etc). and being in second place (after Lexus) in Strategic Vision Total Value Index for 2004. The numbers simply don't lie. One can go to, not only AF, but countless other internet auto sites and browse through their model specific sections to see the countless number of recalls, problems and complaints that lot of automakers have, including Toyota. Hyundai is small compared to alot of others.

I just bought a 1999 sonata gls 2.5l v6 and WOW what a car. It's got huge comfortable leather seats and all the little gadgets you want. The ride is awesome. The quality of the car amazed me, you'd think its a BMW. The engine is fast! I couldn't believe that I beat my friends 2000 Solara v6 from a dead stop or rolling at around 20mph. Get the car, you'll love it.

Re: 99 Sonata GLS - Looking to buy one

i have an 01 GLS V6
I would not say it was a BMW
but it is VERY comfy and has enough power to keep it fun.

I would try to find one with less miles.
I was lucky enough to find an 01 with 42k on it
