Compact Battery...

Does anybody have the Odyssey PC680 (http://www.batterymart.com/battery.mv?p=ODY-PC680) in their 240? It's considered a motorcycle battery, but from what I hear it's often put in CRX's and other small Hondas. I was just wondering if anybody has heard anything about how good this battery is.

Re: Compact Battery...

i don't think it would work for a 240. you can't really compare a crx with a 240.. its actually a really dumb comparison.. 1.6 vs 2.4??? and the 240 needs more electricity cause of shit like hicas and power options.. crx's mostly don't even have power steering, let alone power options.. i'd say a heavy duty car battery would last longer than that thing.. .02

yeah um...i was thinking beyond the "amount of electricity" needed for my car. i was wondering more in terms of reliability and avg. life span.

but anyway it doesn't really matter if you have a 1.6l, 2.4l, or a 5.0l. what you're really looking for in a car battery is cranking amps, or amperage, its reserve power, and its ability to discharge and recharge.
the pc680 has 680 cranking amps, which is plenty of current to get the starter going. it has a reserve power of 25 minutes with a constant 25a draw. and since it is a deep cycle battery, it can be fully discharged and recharged hundreds of times before replacement. these are all qualities that you cannot find in a regular lead-acid car battery like a Duralast. Optima red top and yellow top batteries far surpass these qualities, but those batteries also weigh in at a good 38 pounds. the odyssey weighs only 15 pounds. the pc680 is also a sealed battery, which is a good thing to look for when selecting a battery to relocate to your interior or trunk (which is what i plan on doing) so it doesn't leak acid everywhere and eminate toxic fumes which make you high or dead.
and for the record, the CRX doesn't have any more power options than a 240sx does. windows, locks, mirrors, lights, etc. power steering does not draw any current from the battery. it's a belt-driven accessory. this is why power steering is gone when the car is off or a belt is broken.

Re: Compact Battery...

I think it will work just fine. 680 is plenty to power the starter. Once the car is on, your alternator takes over. Just don't forget to turn off your headlights or it will probably die pretty quick.

yeah they're both mine. what you don't see is that the interior on the black coupe is torn apart because i'm trying to figure out a lighting problem. the front bumper also needs to be replaced...hehe it's just a really good picture. the hatchback is in pretty decent condition though; just awaiting SR20DET funding =D

Well if anybody's still wondering I installed the PC680 battery and everything works fine. The only difference is that the battery takes up about a 1/4 of the space the original did. Excellent weight savings and power source upgrade for 90 bucks!
