Re: 1998 Engine capability

To my knowledge it would fit. Best person to ask would be the dealer, and as far as a motor on EBay i was actually going to buy a 2.2 out of a 01 with that many miles but didn't because he hasn't pulled a motor since 1980.

The junkyard has a book that lists interchangeability for different years.

Re: 1998 Engine capability

No not all motors will fit in. For your 98 you have the 2.2 LN4 OHV which was put into the non- Z24 cavaliers and sunfires GT. These were used from 98-01. 95-97 was the 2.2 LN2 OHV which is basically the same but not quite. If you have a Z24 then you can only put a 2.4L in there with no modification. That engine you see on e-bay, as long as its not the ecotec engine it will swap right it just the opposite as the one you took out. Stick with the LN4 OHV engine because it is a little more reliable than then LN2 for some design flaws. ( i.e. leaky injectors, no belt tensioner, etc. )
